A UN number (United nations number) is a four-digit number identifying a type of dangerous good. While most dangerous goods have their own UN number, similar dangerous goods with similar properties receive a common UN number. By identifying the UN number, the DG specialist can then apply that UN number to the appropriate regulation standard to ensure safe handling and transport.
